    #4 is humbug. Niall was a little loose in his usage of "western civilisation" and the analogy of "operating system", but not much else is wrong with his article. Noah has blown out of proportion what is merely a semantic confusion.

    Ferguson does have a problem, and the remedy for it is Susan Sontag:

    "Mozart, Pascal, Boolean algebra, Shakespeare, parliamentary government, baroque churches, Newton, the emancipation of women, Kant, Balanchine ballets, et al. don't redeem what this particular civilization has wrought upon the world. The white race is the cancer of human history."

    If that was not enough, "according to journalist Christopher Hitchens, Sontag later recanted this statement, saying that "it slandered cancer patients".
